N.B.G.A. Directors Report Spring 2008 Meeting

The spring 2008 NBGA directors meeting was held April 27th in Fredericton.

The main topic of conversation was concerning whether or not the NBGA should participate in the National Public Player Program. Previously NB was one of three provinces not following this program. The board of directors voted by a narrow majority to approve the introduction of the NPPP in New Brunswick for the 2008 golf season. The NBGA NPPP will become immediately available for all interested golfers; the principals of the program are as follows:
1. Cost of the NBGA PP membership will be $30.00 plus HST
2. Individuals can join the program in one of two ways
A: Membership will be sold as part of a 5 round package with participating member clubs.
B: Memberships will be sold directly by the NBGA
3. The NBGA office will issue all Public Player Memberships.
4. All PP members will be grouped into the NBGA Public Player Group, and the NBGA will be totally responsible for administering the handicapping of Public Player members.
5. The RCGA network will be used for NBGA Public Player handicaps.
6. The NBGA will be responsible for attesting PP handicaps.
7. Public Player members will only be granted access to play in NBGA Provincial Championships should the event not fill up with regular NBGA club members by the entry deadline.

This NPP program has been adopted by the NBGA over growing concern at the dwindling memberships at the member clubs and therefore the corresponding reduction in the fees being remitted to the NBGA for those members. In the last five years (2002-2007) total memberships in NB clubs had declined from approx. 15500 to 13700. The NPP program will allow the NBGA to collect $30.00 annually from golfers who chose to enroll in the program but not to join a member club.

The 2008 director’s tournament is at Aroostook Valley Golf Club, September 27th & 28th and the fall meeting will be held in October in Memramcook
